An objective as part of study task 1 was to experiment with paper folds using research and other books.
Already knew a series of folding methods as I had completed projects like this before at a lower level.Creating these folds in relation to the brief involved concepts in my mind which I based the folds on.
Knowing I had to create a folding object, I began with a few initial ideas.
After dividing the design process into 9 separate elements, me and Liam decided to experiment with an idea which involved 9 different pages which, when folded out, created a larger map and a giant poster. A 2 in 1, leaflet and poster.
The publication originally came out too large, at A5 size and folded out into almost A2. If this desing was to be carried on, it would have been reduced and scaled down in size to make it more manageable and also so the outcome had less useless irrelevant information on it; appearing less text heavy.
My 2nd creation was more of a satirical one, having created a folding 'water bomb' which could have the information folded and rolled up and stuck inside, similar to a message in the bottle.
The concept and title of the piece descended from a title which was 'I bombed in first year', a satirical title which pokes fun at my downfalls in my first year.
Another concept with the devise being used to hold water is that, water is key to concentration throughout the design process, also in some people's opinions; as is coffee, the final outcome could have been a coffee kit complete with information surrounding the world of the design processes.
This final idea was just a simple fold which explains how a leaflet can be folded to become interactive.
This final sketch relates to the first design and how it could be expanded, using tracing paper and also initial header font ideas.I had the idea of using tracing paper to illustrate the stages of the design process over-laid on top of the descriptive information.
