MODULE OUDG505 – Studio
Brief 01 - Product Range Distribution Page
Ryan Daley
EVALUATION:
Brief 1
Over all this module would span for over 4 months,
Beginning with an in-depth research task then leading onto an informed design
response to the research, at this stage of the course the work produced for
this module was to reflect my findings and independence throughout the course
and also getting off to a solid start approaching level 6 of the course.
Deciding on the topic that I wanted this whole brief
to focus around was an overwhelming feat to decide upon. After meetings with my
tutors, I was advised to get to grips with a more light hearted topic which I
could enjoy researching and designing for.
Screen-printing was a medium I intended to get to
grips with as previous attempts at this method of printing hadn’t ended very
well and for this reason I was put off trying this again. Due to the lengthy
amount of time I had to complete this brief I felt that I could execute screen
printing for it’s full potential and had enough time to correct mistakes that
may occur in the process.
Immediately feeling this brief would involve a
campaign style response I felt that the cost impact must be considered, this
gave me a direction in to which products I wanted to create, hence screen
printing due to cost effectively.
The final outcomes from this brief have been some
outcomes I have been most pleased with over the year, I enjoyed creating a
range of products rather than refining one, but I hope my blogging and design
sheets have covered each individual aspect of why I created the products and
the messages behind them.
Time constraints became an issue for me towards the
end of the brief, having bad time management skills led me to having lots of
products to design and create in the last few days of the brief, the screen
printing process cause stress for me and I was worried in case the product did
not turn out as expected, thankfully it all paid off at the end and screen
printing is definitely a process I am looking to use again.
Disappointingly I didn’t manage to create all the
products thoroughly that I had intentions to create such as a publication
explaining the need for supporters of gender equality, something which if
created, would have fully explained my project and the resonated the messages
behind the campaign. The products I have created speak for them selves (to an
extent) and my design sheets and blog back up the choices I have made.
EVALUATION:
Brief 2
Responding to feedback from my Responsive hand in, I
was told I should attempt to work in a more minimal style concentrating on
lateral concepts and making better use of white space, this was definitely something
I intended to execute with the design response of this brief.
Knowing the final outcome was to be displayed in the
Chapter 4/5 exhibition, I had every intention to create a piece I was proud to
present in public, this required more thorough design decisions to ensure I was
content with every aspect of my piece.
Discovering in the brief’s information that this
project required designs that consisted of type, image and a combination of
them both I researched into design who use type as image etc and use type hierarchy
effectively I acted upon this by designing and using type as image. These have
been evidenced on my blog.
Overall, my final designs are ones that I feel have a
strong concept, using a more lateral approach in comparison to usual, I hope
the message behind the concept is easily conveyed to the audience.
