This design to show that Lorde is behind the diamonds, trying the look past them, in a wider, deeper meaning, Lorde dislikes the celebrity/modern day diamond lifestyle, and she sings about how not everyone can have that, in her songs, so for this reason this design shows Lorde physically looking past the diamonds, as they are not something she wants.
Lorde does is differently, in my opinion it appears as if she makes songs to sound charty, but then the lyrics are communicating another message, which almost is trying to show the modern day isn't what it's made out to be in other songs, and not every person has the royalties and riches in their lives. This theory also matches up with the mood and lyrics found in her other song, Royals.
The colour choice has been considered in relation to the concept and also how Lorde seems to behold feminist views, therefore the pink and blue girlish diamonds aren't something that she'd be impressed by.
