Concept generation

After being informed on the true definition of a Concept from our Tutor, Simon Harrison, we formed a group of 5 and began to think of quirky concepts for a bar or restaurant.
We were to consider the target market, the location, the type of venue and then finally the concept.

In our group of 5 we attempted to conjure up design concept ideas:
As a group, we generated 3 different concepts based around a bar/restaurant venue.
The initial one we thought of was of a student bar which reflected and empathised the stereotypical student life.
We summarised our concept down to having No Order and for this reason, we based it heavily on this.
A bar/restaurant which summed up the student life, in an ironic way. Fake dirt on the places, artificial broken glasses etc, even to the extent of the waiters being older, such as parents or grandparents.

We felt this concept was one which we could grow vastly due to it being closely related to situations we were readily living in.

We came up with another concept which was based around post sport relation, but in a pub environment, a place where the general public could go on a sunday after playing 5 aside football or such. Where as you enter you get given a pint of cold water, energy reviving lucosade or larger if so, and also an orange to reboot your internal energies.
The concept was an 'after exercise bar', the customer's sports kits were washed in the premises as they waited, and given group clothes which we were colour coordinated.
Possible names for this pub could be the 'post match arms'.
We felt this was a good concept, but it didn't particularly relate to us as the student pad did, and the way we couldn't follow the concept through as well.

We had a third conceptual idea which was one that revolved around the student/teenager lifestyle, partying and glamour also.
The idea was a bar in which the customers brought their clothes that they intended to go night clubbing after in, they were to enter and had the option of following the stages which included:

  1. Choosing clothes
  2. Haircut/Shave (if necessary)
  3. Shower
  4. Make up followed by perfume / aftershave.
  5. Pre night club drinking, girls and boys.
I personally was the one who came up with the fundamentals of this concept, and  thought it could potentially work very well, I felt a flaw in it could be that it could be rather costly for teenagers, but I do feel it is something teenage girls would like to do before going out to socialise.

The concept would relate to 'Pre drinks' + Pampering, so the name could go down that route.

Conclusion
We finally decided that the student bar based around having 'No order' was the best venture to go down, and that we should develop this concept further for this short task.
